LG G5, IS IT STILL WORTH IN 2017? A Revisit





Announced in February 2016 and released in April 2016, LG G5 was the flagship device from LG in 2016. It was released with a completely different design and form factor from its predecessor the LG G4. The LG G5 has a modular design with full metal body finish. It has a unibody design but LG has tried to include all the features like removable battery and a micro-SD card slot as such. Overall the device looks sturdy, has a well-built design and was the first phone to feature a dual camera setup especially a wide-angle lens.
The device comes with 4gb of ram, 32 Gb of internal storage which can be expanded up to 2tb using a micro-SD card. The device has a 5.3-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 2560x1440 with a pixel density of around 554ppi. The phone weighs about 159 gms and feels pretty lightweight. The phone has a 2800 mAH battery which lasts for about a day with normal usage. The phone is power packed by the Qualcomm MSM8996 Snapdragon 820 Quad-core (2x2.15 GHz Kryo & 2x1.6 GHz Kryo) processor and an Adreno 530 GPU which makes it very powerful and the performance is pretty snappy. The phone has an 8mp front camera with f/2.0, 1/4" sensor size, 1.12 µm pixel size, and can record 1080p at 30 fps. There are 2 primary cameras at the rear. The first one is a16 MP lens(29mm), with an aperture of f/1.8 and the second one is an 8 MP wide angle lens (12mm) , with an aperture of f/2.4, laser autofocus, OIS (3-axis), LED flash .the rear cameras features 1/2.6" sensor size @ 29mm, 1/3.2" sensor size @ 12mm, geo-tagging, touch focus, face/smile detection, panorama, HDR. The cameras could record at 2160p@30fps, 1080p@30/60fps, HDR, stereo sound recording. The phone comes with Qualcomm Quick charge 3.0 meaning the phone could charge from 0-60% in half an hour, and has a USB Type-C 1.0 reversible connector, and USB On-The-Go support. The phone has a rear mounted fingerprint sensor which is snappy and is one of the fastest sensors available. The battery is removable that allows you to snap a new battery in case of emergency when you don’t have a power sorce available  and could avoid charging it. The device is available in both single sim variant and dual sim variant according to the region.
The phone has a modular design allowing you to add modules and customize the look and feel of your phone. Currently the phone comes with 2 modules. one is a camera module giving you dedicated controls over your phone’s built in camera and also includes a 1800mah battery built into the module. The next one is a HiFi DAC from B&O play that supports 32bit hi-res audio and could give studio quality experience.
The phone was on the costly side when it was released back in 2016. It costed about $700 for unlocked version of the phone. The phone faced numerous uproars as it was a new design and people were afraid to try it and see how well it was implemented.
Now the phone is available for less than $500 and is a good buy comparing its price and specifications. In India it is available at amazon for as low as 28000. The phone runs the androids latest firmware android nougat 7.0.1 out of the box and has features like volte, infrared sensor, Bluetooth 4.2. The camera is best in its class and could produce some real colors.
